It shouldn't be a big deal, not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all!
Yet it is.
The red carpet is THE place for designers, and celebrities, to present themselves at their brightest and most beautiful so we've become accustomed to seeing the latest offerings sail their way through the sea of paparazzi, twirling momentarily for their close up.
Their should be nothing unusual about brushing off your most favourite (expensive) dress to wear time, and time again, but weird fashion rules about what adult women should, and shouldn't do, would argue otherwise.
Spent a fortune and worn it once? Never. Touch. It. Again. What will the people say? You miscreant pauper!
Well... it seems the people are far more forgiving than we thought because here's Jane Fonda in the very same dress she wore to the Cannes film festival in 2014 looking remarkable IN THE SAME DRESS at the 2020 Oscars, iN tHe sAmE dREsS [Insert SpongeBob meme]...
To top it off, here's Elizabeth Banks at the Vanity Fair Oscars after party, flagrantly looking incredible in a dress she wore 16 years ago.... to the Vanity Fair Oscars after party.
Banks and Fonda were keen to point out the political statement behind their choices, as was Arianna Huffington when photographed at the Vanity Fair after party in a dress she wore in 2013.
Political statements aside; buying second hand does not make you cheap, recycling your favourite outfit does not make you lazy, you don't have to choose between cleavage or thigh, and blue and green most definitely can be seen.
There are some fashion rules that should be smashed into smithereens, along with the patriarchy of course.
